Homeward Bound!

It's about 9:30 pm here on Tuesday night and we are packed and ready to go. We leave for the airport at 6am tomorrow morning (around 4pm Tuesday afternoon MN time!). Our first flight (to Narita, Japan) is about 4 hours and then an 11 hour flight to Mpls (and then one more flight to SD for my little brother who will by that time be very tired!). Prayers for a good girl on a very long flight would be much appreciated!

A really good thing happened at nap time today. I have a pretty outgoing, non-cuddly little girl (kind of like her mom I guess!). Today at nap time, she let me rock her to sleep for the very first time. It felt so wonderful, and I'm hoping the trend will continue on the airplane tomorrow!

Everything went really well today. We went to the American consulate this afternoon to pick up the babies passports and visas. There were about 50 adoptive parents there with their kids and they had us all stand and take an oath that everything we had written on our documents was true. I was the only one in the room who did not say the pledge outloud as my daughter decided at that very moment to have a very loud tantrum....the whole room laughed. The whole room except mommy.

I can't believe this trip is coming to an end. Thank you for following along with us. It's been so wonderfully comforting to me to know that home has been just a blog away!

We love you!
Karis

Karis and Olivia,
I've enjoyed reading about your trip in China and your becoming a family. I pray for you and that your trip home and your new life together will be amazing. As a still-waiting mom-to-be, it is very uplifting to see that families are still being formed and the immense gift parents and children are to each other! I can't wait to meet your precious gift, Olivia, and to welcome her into our Single Parent of Adopted Chinese children family. Take care.

Safe and Happy travels!!!!! We're praying hard for the duration of the trip. It will be long but you'll be home at the end... May it all go smoothly-as much as possible with a busy 2 yr old in tow! Love you guys and so very happy for you--I just LOVE watching Olivia's antics--she will provide much entertainment for a long time ;) and keep you humble as well (tantrums in public places, of which I have numerous experiences--just ask Jon!) Hugs to all. Kiss the ground when you arrive home ;) Love, Di

I'm sorry I somehow missed your trip happening but I will catch up. Congratulations and safe journey and we hope to get to know you better via the China Single Moms group (we met @ Jodi's).

Good luck on the flight home. Just remember this is the final test to get home and I survived it with a 2 year old that didn't sleep except the last 1/2 hour. See you soon!

Karis,

I have missed you, in a way. Knowing you were so far away. But in a way it's like you've been right here! Technology is such a blessing!!

It is now almost 4 p.m. on Tuesday--the time you said you were leaving China. We will be praying for safe travels and for Olivia to be tired enough to sleep on the flight, at least some of the time.

I read about the family that did not get their child--what a heartbreaking situation. They will be in my prayers, for sure.

Thanks very much to John, Christine and Karis for taking time to keep the blog updated, and give us glimpses into the journey.

love,
cindy

Karis,
Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us, it's been so much fun to be there too! Can you bring some of that warm weather back with you, it's been freezing since you left! I can't wait to meet Olivia in person, but I already feel like I know her! I would love to see some more blogs of her first experiences at home, if you have some time before you go back to work.
Love,
